This review provides an overview of the 24th Biennial Conference on Balkan and South Slavic Linguistics, Literature and Folklore, held on 20–23 May 2026 at the University of Newcastle (Australia). Organized by the College of Human and Social Futures, the conference took place outside North America for the first time in its history, bringing together leading scholars from universities and research centres across the United States, Europe, Russia, Turkey, Japan, and Australia. The presentations covered a wide range of topics, including the Balkan Sprachbund, contact linguistics, grammatical typology, ethnolinguistics, folklore studies, literary studies, as well as issues of language identity and diaspora communities. The review highlights the key presentations, fieldwork findings, and recent corpus-based developments.
