About the Journal

History

The journal “Slavic World in the Third Millennium” has been published by the Institute of Slavic Studies of the Russian Academy of Sciences since 2006. Initially, it was published once a year.

The first issue was dedicated to the memory of Dr. Vladimir Konstantinovich Volkov (1930–2005) — a former director of the Institute, a prominent Slavic scholar, and an associate member of the Russian Academy of Sciences — and included only articles he had authored. Every issue after the first had a particular thematic focus (e.g. in 2008, “The Slavic Identity: New Factors of Consolidation”; in 2011, “Intercultural and Interfaith Dialog of Slavic Nations”; in 2012, “Images of Russia in Slavic Countries”; and in 2017, “Ethnic, Religious, Sociocultural Components of the Identity of Ethnic Groups of Central, Eastern and South-Eastern Europe”).

In 2018, the once-a-year publication became bi-annual, published in the summer (issues 1–2) and winter (issues 3–4). The journal has become well known internationally among Slavic scholars.
