Abstract

Based on the published memoirs and letters of the participants of the Russian-Turkish war of 1877–1878, the article explores some aspects of the commander-in-chief Grand Duke Nikolai Nikolayevich’s (Senior) presence on the Balkan front. These aspects were described in the poem by Mikhail Khitrovo «San-Stefaniada». The poem was banned by censorship in 1885, and it is published now for the first time.
