On February 6, 2024, the conference “The Balkans, Asia Minor, the Caucasus: historical, cultural and linguistic ties” was held in a mixed format: in person, at the Institute of Slavic Studies, and on the ZOOM platform. The conference was attended by scholars from various scientific institutions in Russia and abroad: the Institute of Slavic Studies of the Russian Academy of Sciences, the Institute of Linguistics of the Russian Academy of Sciences, the Institute of Oriental Studies of the Russian Academy of Sciences, Istanbul University, Lomonosov Moscow State University, etc. A wide range of issues was discussed: the history of the countries and peoples of Southeastern Europe, Asia Minor and the Caucasus – from the Middle Ages to the beginning of the XXI century, cultural and linguistic traditions of these peoples. The participants of the conference in their speeches touched upon the problems of spiritual culture of different peoples, imagology, interfaith and international relations, as well as issues of resettlement of peoples, preservation and change of their traditions in new areas. Special attention in the reports was given to the parallels that existed and still exist between the different cultures of the Balkans, Asia Minor and the Caucasus, and the mutual influence of these cultures. Most of the reports aroused the interest of the audience and led to discussion. The discussion was attended not only by the participants of the conference, but also by the scholars and guests of the Institute of Slavic Studies of the Russian Academy of Sciences. Thus, the conference became a good platform for exchanging the experience of specialists from different scientific disciplines and for establishing closer ties between various academic institutions. A video recording of the conference is available on the website of the Institute of Slavic Studies of the Russian Academy of Sciences.
