Regionalism and Centralism between the Two Wars (on the Example of Yugoslavia). A View from Hungary

The inter-war Kingdom of Yugoslavia and Tito’s Socialist Yugoslavia both had an urgent task to integrate the territories with very different characteristics. In the first case, the centralism was chosen; in the second, the federalism. But it proved impossible to overcome the centrifugal tendencies: state and political traditions as well as the level of social and economic development varied too much from one region to another. During the interwar period, these differences were deepened by economic reasons.
