Abstract

This article deals with the Russian periods of life of Croatian and Russian philologist Vatroslav Jagić and his perception of Russia. He lived in Odessa in 1872-1874 and in St.Petersburg in 1880-1886, worked in Russian universities and was closely connected with Russian academicians. But he always was not satisfied with the working conditions in Russia and absence of financial guarantees. Jagić was the controversial person who combined the Slavic consciousness and German upbringing. In spite of it Jagić gave very important contribution to development of Croatia-Russia relations.
