Abstract

The holy brothers Cyril and Methodius are the creators of Slavic alphabet and translators of Christian Holy books, and they are famous in the whole Orthodox and Catholic Slavic World. They are very important for EU-spiritual life as well, especially after 1980, when they were proclaimed by Pope Joan Paul II as co-patrons of Europe. The feast of Sts. Cyril and Methodius (11/24th May) and their lives and work had a central place in Bulgarian state building processes and in the Bulgarian national paradigm.

The paper deals with the role of Sts. Cyril and Methodius’s feast in the process of Bulgarian national consolidation in the National Revival period, and with the place of Holy Brothers’ myth in interethnic relations in Bulgaria.
