Abstract

N.V. Berg was the first to make a complete translation of the poem «Pan Tadeusz» by A. Mickiewicz into Russian. His great accomplishment became the writing of a historic study of the Polish rebellions which was remarkable for its objectivity. His essays about the turbulent revolutionary events in Krakov of 1863–1864 were based on the real impressions of the one who witnessed them. These essays were being published in popular Russian magazines in the same years.
