Abstract

The article considers, how the Poles, who in the 1840s–1860s were living on the vast territories of the contemporary Ukraine, Belarus and Lithuania, viewed Taras Shevchenko (1814-1861) and his poetic heritage. The conclusion is made that these views reflected certain political interests, which Ivan Franko described as a desire to see Ukraine as “an integral part of Poland”.
