Abstract

The article contains the analysis of the monograph by the Czech Slavic historian, associate professor of the Charles University in Prague P. Kaleta “A mysterious ethnos from Crimea. Fortunes of the Karaite migrants in the interwar Czechoslovakia” which was published in Prague in 2015 and which is the first fundamental monograph about the Karaites in the Czech language. Special attention is paid to the views of the Czech historian on the origin of the Karaites, the evolution of the Karaite diasporas in Eastern Europe as well as the position of the Karaites in the Russian Empire and in the interwar Czechoslovakia, which was a home for a few dozen on this minor Turkic people.
