Specific features of the identity making in East Slavic societies in the late Middle Ages — Early Modern Period

(on the basis of the Chronicle of Barkulabovo and the works published in Muscovy in the late sixteenth – early seventeenth century)

Abstract

This article considers the making of the intellectual elite’s ethnic identity in Muscovy in the late sixteenth — early seventeenth century. This process is compared with the formation of the ethnic self-conciseness of the Polish-Lithuanian Commonwealth’s Orthodox population.
