Abstract

Professor Alexander Yacimirskiy (1873–1925), a Bessarabian native, was not only an internationally recognised expert in medieval Slavic manuscripts, but also an outstanding fi gure in the Romanian studies in Russia. He published a lot of works on the subjects of Romanian literature, folklore, ethnography, history of church and especially on the cultural ties of the Romanians with their Slavic neighbours. A young student from the University of Kiev Stefan Ciobanu, who planned his academic carrier as an expert in the Romanian-Slavic cultural ties addressed three letters to Yacimirskiy in 1910–1911, seeking the consultations of the best Russian expert in this field. Later Ciobanu became the minister of education in the Romanian Government and vice-president of the Romanian Academy of Sciences.
